Process of Course Selection

First to Third Selection
From 1st to 3rd course selection, for some courses, such as <College Chinese>, <General Education> <Selected P.E.>., it is permitted to select multiple selections (among them, General Education and Selected P.E. are permit selection of up to 20 subjects in total with time conflicts). Other than courses that are reserved for students with special needs or limited numbers of students, other courses may be selected or cancelled at will.
(一)Target: All students of the school
(二)During the period when selection is suspended, students will be randomly assigned for "Preference Subjects", and for subjects with limits on the number of students. When this work is done, students are allowed to query the results of the selection.
(三)"Preference Subjects" include five choices for College Chinese , twenty choices for selected Physical Education and General Education
(The numbers preceding each subject represent your preferences; the smaller the number, the more desirable the subject, i.e., number 1 means the most desirable)

(四)Courses labeled with "priority to XX "
(For example, "priority to Department of Foreign Languages and Literature" or "priority to the Students who had took the course in the previous semester") will be reserved for those who are given priority during the 1st and 2nd selection phase ; priority will be eliminated at the 3rd selection.
(五)Once the course selection ends, the system will begin random assignments. After announcing the results of the random assignments, students can log in to the ” Students' Inquiry System” to query the results of the selection. The checking screen is divided into Registration Succeeded and Registration Failed. The Registration Failed screen will list the reasons for the failure of selection (for example, enrollment quota exceeded). If the reason for such failure is "Time conflicts", students must arrange their schedule to erase conflicts when the selection system is available. The arrangement must be done no later than the add-or-drop selection period.
(六)Since scores haven't been sent during the course selection at the end of the semester, and there might be changes for the time of courses. The Division of Curriculum will perform checks on conflicts and refusal of selection; therefore, students must ensure their results of selection before the 3rd selection begins. It is advised to eliminate schedule conflicts no later than the add-or-drop selection begins.
(七) Introduction of time for selection: from 12:00 noon everyday to 9:00 the following morning during the course selection period
e.g.: The first selection period for the first semester is from June 11 to 16, 2010 (6 days in total), the selection time span is:
Day1 (12:00, 6/11 ~ 09:00, 6/12)
Day2 (12:00, 6/12 ~ 09:00, 6/13)
Day6 (12:00, 6/16 ~09:00, 6/17)

Add-or-Drop Selection
(Handles extra selection and inter-school selection)
Add-or-Drop Selection
(一)Add-or-Drop Selection (The selection for subjects with limited numbers of students is on a first-come -first -served basis, not random assignments)
(二)This is the final step for online course selection. Students must check online or print out their final course selection results by the end of the course selection period and check if the result is identical with the "Course Selection Result".
Inter-school Selection
(一)Method: download the Application Form for Inter-school Selection via "Students' Inquiry System". After filling out the form, submit the form to the Division of Curriculum.
(二)Electives: Students can only take elective courses through the interschool course selection process when the school does not offer those courses.
(三)Credit hours: A student's interschool credit hours must not exceed one third of his/her credit hours each semester. Credit hours are calculated using a round number without the decimal.
Interschool credit hours will be calculated into the current semester's credit hours.
(四)Students must understand and obey other schools' regulations when taking interschool courses.
(五)Some departments of our school have cooperated with National Chiao Tung University and have included their course contents into our school's syllabus. Students of these departments can select these courses directly. (For example, courses offered between the Department of Physics and NCTU are coded as PHYU; courses offered between Institute of Statistics and NCTU are coded as STAU.)
Application Form for Adding Subjects With Limited Numbers of Students
(一)Students who are unable to select subjects with limited numbers of students can download the "Application Form for Adding Subjects With Limited Numbers of Students" via "Students' Inquiry System". After filling out the form, submit the form to the Division of Curriculum.
(二)Courses that "Don't Accept Extra Selection" do not permit printing out the application form (the course won't have a check box as shown in the following figure);students must go to the selection system to select the course before enrollment quota limit is reached. If a student has to enroll in the course for special reasons, he or she is required to state the reason to the department that offers the course and ask the department to print out the application form.

Payment of Credit Fees
(一) After the Add-or-Drop Selection period ends, the Division of Curriculum will transfer the results of selection to the Division of Cashier. The Division of Cashier will create payment notices and make public announcements for students to print out the notice via the "Students' Inquiry System" so that students can make the payment before the deadline.
(二) For students who fail to make payment, graduates may not apply for graduation. Current students will not be allowed to complete the registration process for the following semester.

Second Stage Withdrawal
(一)Go to "Students' Inquiry System" and download the "Second Stage Withdrawal Form." Ask your instructor, advisor and the chairperson of your department to sign the form for you and then turn in this form to the Division of Curriculum.
(二)There is no limit on how many courses a student may drop. However, students should meet the lowest credit hours' requirement for full-time students. Students will not receive refunds for dropped courses and they will be recorded as "withdrawal" on students' Chinese and English transcripts.
